Cargill Dodge City

At the Cargill meat processing plant, there was a problem. The electrical switch room got extremely hot in the summertime. Our team needed to craft a solution despite some challenging constraints.

The first thing we had to do was create a system that would exhaust heat from the switch room and bring in fresh air that was conditioned. This system included a duct that was wrapped in closed cell neoprene and jacked with white PVC sheeting.

To install the new structure, we needed access to the boxing area on the floor above the switch room. Not only that, we had to install the duct on an upper level that had very limited access.

The boxing area is essentially a big cooler that keeps the meat chilled before it’s loaded onto trucks. So while the boxing conveyor systems remained down below, we set up an elevated support structure for the duct and exhaust fans — all while ensuring that nothing touched or dropped onto the conveyor systems.
