Mid Continent Water Reclamation

The Mid-Continent WRF represents an innovative solution to the sewer capacity issues, regulatory requirements, public concerns, environmental/water quality and water stewardship. It provides value-added benefits to the area in regard to available sewer service and reuse water for existing industry and future aviation-related developments near the Dwight D. Eisenhower Airport. The water quality from this state-of-the-art facility will be excellent for a variety of non-potable applications.

The Mid-Continent Water Reclamation Facility addresses sewer capacity needs for the west and southwest sides of Wichita. It also has reduced the odor potential and collection system capacity issues in the south part of the City. The facility is entirely enclosed in a building to comply with FAA safety and security regulations. The facility will utilize membrane filtration, allowing the plant footprint to be much smaller – only 30% of that of a conventional treatment facility – while producing reuse water that is of the highest quality in the state or the region.

The project includes improvements to the Cowskin Creek Pump Station on Tyler Road just south of Pawnee Prairie Park, which increases the capacity and reliability of the pump station and adds odor control measures in an attempt to be a better neighbor to the surrounding community.
